Hey MacRumors!

I guess it's probably too much to ask for you to leave the toxic dump formerly known as Twitter, but any chance of adding social media buttons for Bluesky on the site? I know your audience is growing steadily on that platform.

The Verge was brave enough to remove Twitter's social media share buttons from their site. Could MacRumors be next? Elon Muskrat's platform is worth nothing if we all leave it.

I think Threads would be a better alternative as it's more active than the other Twitter clones. To this day, opening up BlueSky feels like going to what was supposed to be a cool party, only to find out that only five other people showed up. 😩

Though I guess that wouldn't fix the real issue, which is that despite countless efforts to the contrary, Twitter continues to be where the real party is at. 🤷‍♂️

I follow MacRumors on Mastodon which has a healthy following of its own.

Links to MacRumors Mastodon account would be good too.

Well, you might want to check out Bluesky again because it's growing hard, and a very healthy community is starting to take shape. The tech and creative communities are embracing it because, other than Threads and Twitter, they are not using your copyrighted content to train spooky AI systems.

Twitter might still be where the party is, but it's become a very toxic party taken over by bots and controlled by one single person. There's one good reason Apple left Twitter (their account has been empty since 2022) and stopped buying ads on that platform. Think about that.

Mastodon had some momentum when Musk bought Twitter, but the growth has come to a halt. And Threads is in the hands of Meta. I don't think it's a good idea to give that company even more power, not to start over privacy issues and the use of your content without authorisation.

Bluesky is a decentralised platform without an algorithm other than the use you make of it. It also offers all kinds of filters to keep toxic users away. I seriously think Bluesky is eventually going to be a thing. The momentum is on their side. Since Musk bought Twitter, that platform has lost somewhere between 30 to 50 million users, depending on the source, while Bluesky just keeps growing.

BlueSky as a whole is not picking up much traction as far as I can tell. I don't know anyone irl who's on it. I don't know about the MacRumors channel specifically though.

I have never had an account with Twitter, Mastodon or Bluesky. I just now spent 20 minutes browsing Bluesky and was not impressed. If one is not keen on cats, cartoons or Hallmarkish sappy sentiments, I see little to keep me there. I may not have given it enough of a chance but from what I saw I shall not be signing up.
