I have been searching all over today to find something in Cydia that would do what iBluetooth and its update iBlueNova did. I see that neither show up in the repo right now, and that the developer has been MIA since February. I also have read that iBlueNova doesn't work with ios4. I really want something to fix the shortcomings of my bluetooth now that I have a car that actually supports it. I can't sync my address book to my car and without Music Controls I can not control my bluetooth streaming music except via my iPhone.

Can anyone give me a recommendation? I'm JB'd and unlocked and won't be upgrading to 4.1 any time soon so an app is my best bet.

Thanks!

I guess by the non-response to my question, and my inability to find anything means that nothing exists to replace iBlueNova.

I really wish that Apple had not crippled the Bluetooth on our phones.

Uh, look at the original date... it was 4 days ago ;-) but thanks!

I can't find anything either and I really want to be able to transfer files via blue tooth

I've been waiting for iBluenova to update myself, Currently i haven't find anything similar that works over bluetooth, iFile works over Wifi and that is what I have been using.

That's strange... I can sync my 3GS' phonebook to my Lexus' factory Gen6 navigation system without issue.

I would insert your iphone's SIM into another Bluetooth enabled phone and sync your phonebook over before transferring the SIM back into your iphone.

Can't help you with the music streaming issue- I just use my car's iPod interface. Charges the phone and I can play/pause songs and select albums/songs on the touchscreen. I can even control the iPod from the steering wheel controls, hehe.

Maybe you can look into installing an aftermarket iPod kit?

Yeah, I just have not been able to get that phone book transferred. Had to set up all numbers verbally in my Camry.

I stream fine via bluetooth and control via the Music Controls app now, but it's very limited, can't see what's playing, choose any lists or anything... it works enough. I do have OEM iPod controls and have my old iPod hooked up, it's just more convenient to us my iPhone as that's my main "iPod" these days and I love just popping in the car and it starts playing wherever I left off from listening outside of the car. I listen to a lot of audiobooks so this is pretty important. I love not having to have my iPhone out of my bag while in the car or to have to plug it in to use it.

Just disappointing that the ability is there, but Apple has limited us in what we can do vs. other older bluetooth phones.

Good idea on putting my sim in another phone and syncing the phonebook, but I wonder if that phonebook works across bluetooth devices? I'll have to play around. <edit> NVM... none of my contacts are saved to sim... they're all sync'd via Google.

I think there's a few jailbreak apps which can transfer your contacts from your phone to your SIM. Google it- I can't remember the app name offhand.

The lack of bluetooth options beyond the 2 for headset use is without doubt my biggest complaint about the iphone. In so many ways the phone still hammers the opposition, but in this one area it is like going back into the dark ages.
I genuinely feel that Apple's treatment of users at times is really bad and the whole failure to allow even rudimentary file format transfers can do nothing but hurt them in buyers eyes.
For me at least, I would like the option to send and receive pictures via bluetooth. I know I can email them, but that isnt always an option, and it really annoys me that if I take a picture when I am visiting parents or with friends, I am unable to bluetooth a pic to their phones. What annoys me more is the smug look of everybody around me who isnt using an iphone as they give you the ' Iphones not that great now is it? ' look.

In some ways I understand the argument against it, but when it comes down to it, the lack of bluetooth profiles is a truly abysmal state of affairs.

Lets hope someone works out a jailbreak alternative to the crippled bluetooth we have now on iphone 4.

It real is a bad point of the device, its not that I cant do without it personally but it just really looks silly when a friends ask's you to Bluetooth a picture/song/ringtone and you cant.

I wish iBluenova was working.

new cydia app to be released

Hello,

in response to your enquiry, a new and very promising app is to be released on cydia between today and tomorrow- it's name: Celeste. Find out more about it on www.getceleste.com. It should do what ibluenova did, even better!

:)

downlading now, hope its as promising as it looks, and the author keeps updating it, i have been waiting a long time for a bluetooth app like this...

The app doesn't work for me. It says it's connecting and that's it. No file transfers or anything. I did get a pop-up to input a 0000 code but still nothing. The app uses a lot of dependecies such as sbsettings, action menu, and so on. The problem I see is that I don't think action menu is updated to work with 4.2.1 which is a requirement for Celeste to work on the iPhone4. Very disappointed with this developer as they claim they've done extensive testing. I hope they get this sorted out.

very true, after using it for a day i am quite disappointed, hopefully the upcoming updates will only make it better...

I's bought it too, installed and at first could't find a trace of it anywhere. It took me a few hours just to find it in the 'Action Menu.'

I have some questions about it:
- Do you have to have 'Bluetooth' ON (the bluetooth that comes with the iPhone/pod?)
- How do you get to the point where you can send a song... or where? Do i just go to Music-.. then something?

I don't expect this to work, but some sort of tutorial to use it properly would be a great addition to the download.

Do not turn on the native Bluetooth from the iPhone. You activate Celeste via sb settings through a preprogrammed swipe on your iPhone's screen, usually a left or right swipe from the top screen bar. Once the sb settings screen shows up on your screen, look for the Celeste button and press it to turn it on, hit the x to close sb settings screen. You will notice that the Celeste bluetooth icon appears.

From what I understand about this app, you open your iPod app and go through your library of music, select the song you want to transfer by touching on the title and keep holding it down until Action Menu kicks in. There you will be presented with some choices such as select, select all, copy, cut, or send via bluetooth.

Good luck getting it to work
