I just got a iphone 3g and I am having dificulty pairing with my car bluetooth. It seems to pair ok and carrier logo appears and then immediatly turns off. The phone may say connected but it is not. It then also disconnects. My iphone on bluetooth settings page sometimes shows MY CAR as the device and then sometimes HANDSFREE. It does the same more or less when I try to connect to my MacBook.
Thanks

I was going to ask if your car's bluetooth system is indeed compatible with the iPhone (some car manufacturers specify a list of compatible cell phones) until I saw the line about the same behavior with your MacBook. Either something is wrong with your iPhone's firmware or hardware. To see if it's the firmware, I'd suggest a full restore (set it up as a new device just to be sure) first. If that doesn't work, it may be hardware related and you'll need to take it to Apple for repair.
