iPhone X Bluetooth disconnects

(non Apple) smart watch which pairs correctly with my iPhone X, when unlocked all works as it should, notifications wise.
However the connection ‘fails’ when the iPhone is locked, consequently notifications don’t come through until the phone is unlocked which obviously is of little use !
Previously the watch was paired to an iPhone SE and I don’t recall this problem happening.

Anyone any idea why this should be ?

Have you tried reset network settings? Reset the "non-Apple" watch as well. Does the "non-Apple" watch require an app to be installed? Make sure you have the correct setting in the app.

Thanks...I’ll try this later today.
Yes, I’ve installed the App and there’s very little in the way of settings in it, but all appears ok.
