Bluetooth headphone connectivity issue

I have used my bluetooth headphone on my imac before, but been a while.

I'm doing some stuff in same room so want to use bluetooth over wired as impractical use wired at moment.

So turn on the headphones and it is not seen in bluetooth preferences.
I tried with my new phone and connected fine.

Any ideas why the imac not see it even though i have used it on the imac in past?

It's annoying.

still does not work.

headphones work with my android phone.
and my imac see my android phone.

also just to add to this, my finacee cannot add the bluetooth speaker bar in bedroom to her new iphone 8+ but it works on her old SE.

This is annoying our devices cannot link to speakers.
