Hey guys so I have a question about truly wireless bluetooth headphones, for the past 6 months or so I've been using the Jabra elite sport and they have been great except for one thing... there is a lag in audio when watching video (so annoying) I had jabra send me a replacement since I thought it was an issue with my pair but no luck... When I switched to the iPhone X I set it up as a new phone just in case it was something in hte software of my iPhone 7 plus... I also thought maybe iOS 11 would fix the issue but no luck

I am reading around and seeing that this seems to be a common issue with truly wireless headphones. My wife has airpods and does not have this problem (I suspect thats due to the W1 chip) unfortunately the airpods dont stay in my ears so not an option for me :(

My question is does the bluetooth version make a difference with this issue? I've noticed most of these headphones have bluetooth 4.1 (jabra, jaybird run, bose) but the new samsung gear iconX headphones come with bluetooth 4.2

would the samsungs resolve this issue due to the bluetooth version upgrade or does it not make a difference? Should I just suck it up and wait for a bluetooth 5.0 pair to come out?

I've got the Jaybird Runs, with bluetooth 4.1 and I don't have much issue with syncing video on the iPhone X. I've only used Netflix and HBO though. Most of the time, the video is perfectly synced immediately but on occasion it's out of sync for 30 seconds or so before it starts to match up. I got mine after the firmware update was released though.

The Samsung Gear Icon X headphones might not have those issues, but I've read they are only fully functional on Samsung branded phones.

Truly wireless earphones are still kinda new so I'm betting the next generation will be much better.

cool thanks for the feedback. If I get the headphones i would only use them for audio purposes, not for the assistant or any fitness uses so the samsung not being fully featured on iOS may not bother me. video being out of sync is really bad on netflix for me so maybe I will give the jaybirds a shot since I really liked their older bluetooth headphones.

Bluetooth lag used to drive me crazy but since switching to all Bluetooth 4.2 or higher devices the issue is gone.

Interesting... Ugh I'm kicking myself because amazon had the Samsung headphones on sale for $149 during black Friday and cyber Monday... I was so close to pulling the trigger but wasn't sure... now they are back to $199.... i should have purchased them even if it was just to try it out.

So Amazon lowered the new icon gear X to 149 again yesterday. I placed the order and will be getting them today. I have my fingers crossed that the video lag issue is not present with those... If it is I will just return them and stick with my Jabra's until this gets resolved. It appears that this happens to some people despite the fully wireless headphones they have and then it does not happen to other people which odd.

Bluetooth lag is real and not consistent. It's especially bad with the truly wireless earbuds. That's because most use a master/slave system where one earbud receives the signal from the phone/device and then relays the appropriate audio to the other earbud. That takes time to sync up and because the earbuds don't have a powerful chip in them you can get lag. Apple's Airpods work better than most because of several factors (both can work independently, W1 chip, etc) but they too can experience problems (seldom).

Some have experienced issues in some apps but not others. Some have reported better results with earbuds using newer bluetooth standards while others haven't seen a difference. My experience is that a cheaper pair of earbuds worked okay with my phone/mac in some cases, not in others. However, my Airpods haven't shown any perceptible lag.

This is just a long-winded way of saying YMMV and your guess is as good as anyones.

I just received Samsung gear icons 2018 today and I am disappointed for the price. The video lag is a very real issue when watching YouTube app on iPhone 7 which uses bt 4.2 the music sounds good. Controls are fine. Ambient is useless if your volume is higher than 50% which it will always be because it’s quite quiet.

But the lag really disturbs me as well as tiny cuts in the left ear ( slave ear piece)

And tbh it’s not that comfortable.

Why did apple have to go and make a horrid design for its AirPods. I bought them before these and it was great except for the fit or isolation. Really a shame. I have a pair of wired bt earbuds from baker I paid 30$ that have a better video sync than the 200$ iconx.

I will be returning them.
[doublepost=1525125560][/doublepost]Okay after further testing on my iPhone it seems that ONLY the YouTube APP has this lag issue. Which leads me to believe it’s not an issue with the earbuds but with the app itself. Even played by YouTube videos in either reddit app or the mobile version of YouTube are perfectly synced!? So it’s really an issue with the app. I also tried the Netflix app and it’s working perfectly fine. I’m quite torn now. Not sure if I wanna retUrn them anymore. They aren’t the most comfortable either but I still haven’t played with multiple sized tips and wings.
