when i pair my bluetooth headphones to the watch and try to play a song, the iphone plays from the speaksrs. im sure this is a silly question but when are you supposed fo pair with the watch and when are you supposed tonjust use the phone? are there settings to go directly to the watch?
 
Try a force touch on the music app to change the source.

You have to select the source as in the post above each time you use the buds or speakers.
 
As the others state, you have to select the source.

However, when the phone is there, I personally can't see any reason why to pair up the headset with the watch.

The phone has more battery, more memory, and better antenna.

The one reason for me at least would be at the gym. I could just leave my phone in my bag in a locker and just run off the watch. I only loaded a few "gym worthy" songs on it for that purpose.
