As Bluetooth devices is getting more and more popular I have now come to the point that I have two devices of the same kind. This is loudspeakers placed in different rooms that I want to switch between from my Mac. But when I have paired them they have the same name showing up in the Bluetooth device list. Quite confusing.

So my question is how to change the names to a more unique ones so I don't have to guess which is who.

I want to be able to edit this in my Mac.

Anyone?

That sucks!

I can even change to whatever name in my son's old SonyEricsson mobile!
But not in iPhone or Mac OS X Snow Leopard...?

So is there no one else with this situation having two devices with the same factory name that you want to differ?

yeah, you can change your phone's name in your phone. why should you be able to change the name of other devices from a computer? thats a security risk.

if your speakers have a little operating system in them you may be able to change their bluetooth name from the speaker.

Connect the bluetooth device
System Prefs > Bluetooth > Select the item in the left column > Select Gear Icon on the bottom > Rename is one of the options.
At least it is for my Mouse.
