My working files are all unsaved, and had to restart by holding the physical power button .

As usual, apple support is being a good for nothing in solving this , and asks if I had a usb C wired mouse (which most of us doesn’t have it)

Was wondering if anyone got locked out of their Mac mini m4 as well? I would most likely be returning this unit if this is a widely known issue

First I've heard of it... I keep a wired USB keyboard and mouse around just for situations like this. You should consider it as well. I'm more curious what vendor, model, and specs are your Bluetooth keyboard and mouse?

There's a thread about bluetooth issues here, but your problem sounds worse. No trouble using a new Apple Magic keyboard and 5-year-old Magic Mouse on my new m4 Mini. I have USB-C adapters and a bunch of old wired keyboards and mice around the house however, they can come in handy at times. :)

Logitech pebble mouse350s and keyboard k380s…. The best alternative to apple accessories

Yeah, I am thinking Apple really forces you to use their wireless accessories or go wired. I have a BT keyboard and mouse combo specifically designed for Mac (has Mac keys not Windows) but I had a hard time getting my M4 to wake up and had to hard reboot it a lot. I turned off sleep and that has helped, but it should be necessary. I think this is a feature, not a bug in Apple's eye.

I am using the Apple Keyboard and Magic Mouse (both bought a few years back - lightning connector era) and they work fine for my base M4 Mac mini.

Do yours connect instantly upon wake from sleep or reboot? Mine sometimes take at least six seconds.

The new Magic Keyboard on the m4 Mini works immediately, have not noticed any delay. But I only have the display sleep, so the the keyboard should never disconnect. However, the last time I started it up, I don't recall any delay. This machine runs 24/7 as a server, so that shouldn't be any issue.

On my 2018 (intel) Mini with older space grey Magic Keyboard, it takes a second maybe, certainly not six seconds. But I still don't like that and keep the USB cable plugged in all the time.

So if I don't put the Mac Mini to sleep nor shut it down, I should be able to reduce the chance of this happening?
