bluetooth issues on current beta (23april22)

anyone else? my satechi X1 BT keyboard won't connect. i can get it to show up in the system prefs>bluetooth window, but when i click 'connect', nothing happens. then the listing disappears completely.

having a similar problem with the roli lumi (music) keyboard; i connect thru the audio/midi app; i've gotten it to work, but takes a number of attempts.

reported in the feedback app! just wondering if anyone else is seeing this. prior to the latest beta, i had no issues at all with bluetooth, with either device...

interesting, that the satechi keyboard pairs instantly with my 2016 macbook, but won't pair with the 2019 imac i need it for (both are on the current beta).... hmmmmmm

EDIT: reset the smc, nvram. reset bluetooth (in terminal). not fixed. but again, works on my macbook. so it goes...

first, i did not say it's a bug. i said i am having an issue, and asked if anyone else is. second, i have never claimed that apple, or the OS, is perfect... i've had issues before, and have come here to discuss, and ask for help, before.

Bluetooth issues are frequent in Monterey, I'm afraid. You don't mention: is your MacBook in Monterey? ...Also in the beta? This info is crucial, as the problem could be bt implementation for a specific device...

There's an important clue in your description, nevertheless:

...well, this smells "bug", and I find this behaviour the most irritating and baffling when an issue arises, as the only thing you can do is try to "narrow" conditions set when "things work".

I don't know if reseting Bluetooth in terminal (or any other way) implies "forgetting" devices; I would try to "erase" knowledge of device by MacOS and start pairing as new, from zero.

There're still a few glitches with Bluetooth implementation in Monterey, let's face it. I hope Apple will fix this, as bluetooth is a central piece in the "ecosystem" now (I try to avoid wireless and rely on trusty physical wiring when possible, though).

(I'm in 12.3.1 iMac2018, and my bt mouse still wakes computer, making impossible "sleep". It didn't happen prior to Monterey. I switch off the mouse when putting mac to sleep).

why are you prolonging this? this is a thread about a bluetooth issue.

i NEVER dismiss people's issues, i OFTEN suggest that an issue one person has is not a bug, and that whining and ranting are not as useful as, say, asking for help.

when i have an issue, i come here to report it, and/or ask for help. that's all i've done. if you want to attack me, save it for a thread where i call someone out for whining and ranting...

meanwhile, back on topic:

booted in safe mode. no change. deleted the bluetooth preference files (in the main library and the user library/by hosts folder). still nothing.

the fact that this works on my macbook suggests (i think) an issue with the imac and bluetooth, and/or the keyboard having been paired previously with this mac.

will investigate further, welcome suggestions... and will report all of this again in the feedback assistant.

my macbook is on the same (monterey) beta, and the satechi keyboard connected promptly. the roli lumi connected instantly on the macbook as well (just tried it).

so, definitely set in motion by the current beta... and problematic with the imac only.

OK. We know the situation a little better now.
Often not well described: your bt devices ALSO have "info" or some kind of data in their guts. When pairing your satechi or roli, they grab some kind of id of device they have been paired to. The satechi keyboard "remembers" up to three connected devices, I believe. I'm not a tech savvy, but I'm curious, and info and implications about this detail is not well studied in the web... There's some info the keyboard keeps !
What if the id or profile of iMac have slightly changed? The keyboard thinks it's connected to iMac, iMac knows about keyboard... but connection is not working. Reseting this data in device is done, usually (and all info stubbornly points to this) from hosting machine: this is, "forgetting" device and repairing from bluetooth preference panel.
But if SO has changed, perhaps it CAN'T completely erase or rebuild data IN the keyboard. I think this is not a trivial problem, and find it interesting. (I hope my poor English don't make me misunderstood; this is a subtle kind of problem).

There should be a way to RESET the device itself (but I think it's not frequently implemented; running out of battery perhaps isn't enough) , and "its memories" from prior connected machines. The "memory" of your Satechi is perfectly functional with your MacBook, BUT perhaps (it has to be this) something has changed in your iMac, BUT nor keyboard nor mac REALISE this fact.
I would try strategies with this in mind. Perhaps there's a way, key combo or something, tho make KEYBOARD forget its settings. If not, perhaps overwriting "1-2-3" connections TO ERASE "old" iMac profile, IN KEYBOARD.
Same for Roli Lumi (and this is a special bt connection).

I think my explanation fits with issue reported by you, and could happen to others, me included. This "small", subtle problems with bluetooth are not well explored and divulged by experts, so is to us (users) to make educated guesses, I presume.

i think there's something to this, the fact that both devices have previously paired to the imac. when i tried them both with my macbook, this was the first time for both devices.

i've reset the satechi keyboard; no change. it simply will not connect to my imac. the roli keyboard does, but it can take 4-10 times before it connects.

this was all set in motion by the current beta, so something in that has changed the relationship of '3rd-party, previously-connected bluetooth devices', for me, on the imac.

right now, i have both plugged in with usb, and continue to work. will see if apple gets back to me (a rare thing), and/or if the next beta fixes it.

if anyone else has similar experiences, or ideas... please post! thanx

ok, lol. i called apple support, did a screen share, showed the support person how my satechi would not connect... and it connected (he said it was his 'positive thinking' that fixed it ? ).

either way, my keyboard is connected, and the lumi will connect eventually. just letting ppl know what happened!

...Related to this: I know is an odd conclusion, but I feel Monterey has some "interior life", some processes to auto-tune, or something like that... I don't know how to express exactly, but with Monterey I've had "issues" that scarcely happened once or twice before settling a fixed behaviour afterwards... Or some glitch insist appearing for a while (buggy Mail opening, for me) and glitch still exists but becomes rare or even disappears (in same OS version). Perhaps a lot of remote adapting and mending... I don't know, but probably a more net-depended OS than Mojave, from which I jumped.

Does anybody feel something like this with Monterey? ...a lot of things happening in the background without notice or info? (...or probably a very subjective appreciation from a boomer...)

I can understand it’s quite possible to live with issue till next update (you’re enrolled in the beta testing, these things may happen).

But I can’t help to bring out your definitely “positive thinking” ability!!:

If this would have happened to me, ending with an unpaired satechi, I would gave up positive thinking. This is itchy at least! ?
Reached this point, I wouldn’t be too surprised if pairing starts working again (as I’ve explained, I’ve experienced minute issues that seem to auto-fix after some use, in Monterey -and find it perplexing-).
I hope your issue gets resolved in subsequent updates. Bluetooth is, for sure, in need for fine-tuning, and all last betas show work in progress.

(I keep using my old Apple wired extended-keyboard; bt one that came with my last iMac was dedicated to my iPad since unpacking. Bluetooth fails, sooner or later, in my experience).

i've really had no bluetooth issues in monterey until the current beta, and everything else seems fine. meanwhile, both devices are working (for now), and easy enough to plug in to usb if not. but hopefully fixed in the next beta (or i'll go back to apple for help).

on this weeks beta (21F5063e), and after about 20 attempts... my satechi keyboard connected to my imac, and the connection has held for 2 days. a good sign? anyway, if anyone knows how to completely wipe 3rd-party bluetooth device info from monterey, i'd like to start clean. for now, am back in business...

I give up, will wait for next updates (no using betas) to resolve little inconveniences that started with Monterey. I honestly understand the difficulties with Bluetooth implementation, as quite lots of different protocols and devices need service nowadays… Basic things work, and much better than in pc’s or androids, to be fair.
All these small problems support my decision to use wireless only if very convenient or inevitably needed.

Hey, good to know I’m not the only one having problems with Bluetooth. Today I installed macOS 12.3.1 from scratch and even without installing any other app or software, it is making my Magic Trackpad 2 to stutter, and the Magic Keyboard to have ghost pushes.

I really whish Apple fixes this with macOS 12.4 next week, otherwise I’ll be going back to Big Sur.

I suspect it has something to do with Universal Control, because despite having a non compatible mac, it keeps popping on the Activity Monitor.
