I can find the monitor, and pair it, but every time I leave the bluetooth settings page, it disconnects. I have tried it with two different straps, and re-set up my watch as new, and I keep having this issue. Anyone else have this problem and find a solution?

I didn't have that particular issue besides pairing the chest strap and losing heart rate data on the native workout app sometimes. Recently moved to using a third party app and after a week or still haven't experienced the issue so it might just be a software issue. Annoying I know but that is Apple's QC these days.

The watch has absolutely no need to be connected tithe HRM in normal usage so I can understand this happening.

When I start a workout with my bluetooth HRM, the optical HRM on the watch actually comes on for almost 10-15 seconds, probably enough time to get he first reading. In the meantime I can see the Bluetooth HRM (wahoo tickr) flashing it's lights like a disco to let me know it's connecting. Then the green light I the optical HRM shuts off.

Have you tried running a workout?

Yes, I am trying to pair it during a work out. It also won't pair before a work out. I have reset and deleted both my phone and watch, and even tried with a new HRM from a different brand. Same issue--it connects, but disconnects as soon as I leave the screen.

What's weird is that I can pair it with my phone, and it reads the data and saves it to my phone. However, when I am working out, it seems to mix up the Apple Watch HR data with the Polar data, and the Apple Watch is not very accurate at all, so it messes everything up.

What brand was the other chest strap?

I have used the Polar H7 and the Wahoo. Both have this issue. Also of note, I am having this problem on two Apple Watches. I wanted to switch from a 38mm to 42mm. The 38mm one is gone, but before I sold it, I had problems regardless of which watch I used. I reset them both multiple times to no avail. Both are fine with bluetooth headphones, though. The Apple Genius bar had no idea how to fix it.

Odd.

The chest strap also being paired to your iPhone could be an issue. Unpair it before testing.

Pair the chest strap to your Apple Watch. Open the workouts app. Start a workout. What happens with both the optical HRM on the watch and with the chest strap? And what happens after one minute.

Are you wearing the chest strap when you attempt this, by the way?

I have unpaired the straps many many times. The optimal HRM keeps going, but the strap gets disconnected as soon as I leave the bluetooth page.

Yes, I am wearing the strap when I do this. I also am making sure it's not paired to my iPhone at the same time.

I have the polar h7 HRM paired with my 38mm Apple Watch and it works fine most of the time except when it disconnected from the watch whenever I'm past half an hour on a workout using the native workout app. Switched to a third party app and haven't experienced the problem since.

I just like seeing my heart rate and active calories as I work out. Is there a 3rd party app that links to the Polar that is nice and will flash HR or calories burnt while I am working out on my watch?

You're going into the settings *while the workout is running*?

I find it odd that you're having this problem with two brands of HRM and two different watches.

Yes. I have tried it out while the workout app is off too. Same issue.

I agree, it is quite odd. I have never had such a resistant problem with an Apple product, or any tech product, for that matter. It's weirder, because I had it working flawlessly a month ago. The issue occurred as soon as I switched watches. I unpaired my Apple Watch and set up the new one. But even going back to the old watch, the problem persists. I have reset everything and unpaired everything and deleted everything. Nothing!

Depends on your type of workout you looking to track. Do you mainly do cardio, strength training or something else?
