I'd like to know if iOS8, with its extensibility and significantly improved access for third parties to APIs such as keyboards, will widen the range of Bluetooth accessories to which it pairs. Specifically, I use Bluetooth with my Android phone to log the performance of my car through the OBDII (On Board Diagnostics) port, getting access to a ton of information that isn't on the dashboard ranging from instant readouts of MPG and fuel flow to the temperature of the fluid in the automatic transmission. This, however, is unavailable on the iPhone and iPad, which through iOS7 have forced you to do this through WiFi.

So, my question is, will Bluetooth be opened up some more? Apple's marketing so far today hasn't shed any light on this.

Not likely, nothing today indicated they would add those extra bluetooth profiles.
