For about a year now, I've noticed that my Magic Trackpad, and in some cases my keyboard, take an extended amount of time to turn on after startup. The Trackpad usually takes around 10 seconds after the desktop displays to turn on; sometimes, however, it'll turn on just after the "no mouse or trackpad" window pops up - roughly 45 seconds. The keyboard as of late has been really quick; 2 or 3 seconds if not instant. However, once in a while, it'll take a bit longer. The Magic Mouse, on the other hand, works fine, perfectly instant response at boot.
This is what I tried a year ago:
- turned Bluetooth on/off
- deleted Bluetooth and peripheral plist files
- added peripherals as favorites
- verified the disk
- repaired permissions
- changing the batteries
- re-paired the devices
- changed the batteries
- reset SMC and PRAM
- restored to earlier Time Machine backup
- standard reinstall of Snow Leopard
Nothing worked.
So, I took it to the Genius Bar and they replaced the Bluetooth chip after deciding it was a hardware issue (they used a different trackpad/keyboard and booted the OS from an external hard drive they had lying around). Seemed to work for a day or two, but then it went right back to business. Lion and Mountain Lion came and went, no improvement. Did a clean install of Mountain Lion (had some other problems), no improvement. Took it to the Genius Bar again last week and they said they couldn't recreate the problem. I wasn't there to see them recreate the problem (which they did last time), so I bet they used the Magic Mouse the entire time. They said it could be interference, but on my way home from picking up the iMac, I tested it out at my parent's house (with only one wirelessly-connected device, as opposed to five or six at my home) and the problem played out exactly the same.
So, I'm at a loss what to do. Help?
