So, I want to start buying BluRay movies since they are good quality. So, I intend to rip them onto my Mac and pop them on my Apple TV.

Now, I know my Mac doesn't support BluRay, but, to what extent? Can I buy an external BluRay reader and rip the disc in and play it? Or can OS X (10.6) not play BluRay movies either?

And, when I drag the movie into iTunes, when streaming to my first gen Apple TV, will it automatically downsize it to 720p?

Can anyone fill me in? Thanks.

Yes you can rip them with make mkv!
Watch them with plex!
The mkv files will have to be converted into itunes 720p format, to store and stream them on your itunes library.
