Hi all,
So I obtained an HD wallpaper that has quite a wide aspect ratio. When setting it as my desktop background, it is quite low-detail, despite me being able to compare it side by side with the same file in Quick Look or Preview, and the image is much clearer in the application. I attached the original and a screenshot. (My wallpaper setting is "Fill Screen")

Any ideas on how to make it clearer? Or am I going to have to just crop it?

PS: For those of you good at Windows 8, I have a similar problem of the wallpaper being much more low quality than the picture itself. Help appreciated.
