BMW or Apple. Which one do I blame for causing damage to iPhone 15 Pro Max after using the built-in wireless charger in the car?

They are pointing fingers at each other. (the BMW dealer's service dept and the Apple Store genius) Meanwhile, I have a nearly brand-new phone that's having problems with something called the NFC function... It's so frustrating that I want to file a dispute with AmEx to see if they can initiate a chargeback?

I personally think it would be an apple, but I don’t understand, is Apple not wanting to fix the device under warranty?

Probably Apple, it's not like the car causing damage to any other phones.

Let the might of Amex fight your battle while making you whole in the meantime?

And here I thought wireless charger system was easier to use or sth.
I installed this in one of my cars:

I have similar issue with 15 pro max and Cadillac Lyriq after 17.1 update.

It’s working fine before, hopefully Apple fixes issue

Not true . My iPhone 15 pro max wireless charging is not working on Cadillac lyriq after 17.1 update.

Clearly some thing changed with 17.1
Works on my Bronco Sport BUT gets the only charges 2-5% in 45ish mins and the phone gets so hot if being used (call(s), Bluetooth, etc). Ford has a bulletin to update their software to work with iPhones.….

Problem is the camera housing sticks out from phone that it doesn’t lay flat onto the charger to work properly. Because of this I don’t use my wireless charger…

Get a replacement from Apple.
Yeah, that was my thought as well. Why go through the trouble of a CC dispute if Apple would just replace the broken device.

I am guessing that it is one of the following scenarios:

Apple is offering to fix or replace the device, and the OP doesn't want to do it for some reason, probably because of buyer's remorse and they just want their money back.

The NFC issue isn't reproducible and Apple is refusing to fix/replace it.

The NFC isn't actually damaged, and it just is disabled after being charged via the BMW, so no point is replacing it.

Or a combo of the above.

Now, if Apple is refusing the fix/replace the damaged iPhone because they consider it an out of warranty repair, that is pretty shady by Apple, and then I understand why the OP want to dispute the CC charge.

Although, I think based on the OP not answering questions on the thread, the OP is probably having buyer's remorse after the wireless charging issue and NFC isn't actually damaged which is why Apple is not replacing the iPhone or offering a refund.

Well, my bmw with the Qi certifies pad worked just fine with the 14 pro. Same for my wife. For our other bmw. For over a year. The new 15 pro the broke within a week in my 2021 M5. So yes, it is 100% an Apple issue. Apple also called me and asked me many questions. The rep told me it’s not just bmw. It’s a wider issue. And they don’t have a replacement. I have been waiting for 3 weeks for them to send me a new phone.

Just blame both. BMW for their wireless charging firmware/hardware and Apple for their iOS unable to properly handle handshake and charging.
Well. I disagree. The bmw charging system works fine with all phones but the 15 pro. So it is clearly a 15 pro issue.

sorry for the delay in replaying. I wanted to wait until a resolution was reached.

although my new iPhone 15 Pro Max was beyond the usual return period, Apple finally agreed to accept the return. After two more days, an identical replacement was shipped to me. Until Apple releases a fix, I have physically disabled the wireless charging pad in my BMW. (by taking out the panels and disconnecting the connector behind it)

It makes me wonder if all those cheap charging pads available on Amazon could potentially damage our phones... ?

Has there been an explanation as to what causes the problem?

the last time I used a no-name wireless charging pad was about 7 years ago?(or whenever the Samsung Galaxy S7 was first released). Samsung gave me a free Samsung charging pad. It worked pretty well so I wanted another one for my bedroom. Back then, the original Samsung charging pad was kind or expensive($49 or $39?) I saw one that looked like it on Amazon for $19. I forgot the name... Aukey, Lukey, Aucky or something like that? It actually work just as well as the Samsung one in my study. Until.... one day I woke up and smelled plastic burning. The back of the Galaxy S7 and the charging pad surface had kind of melted together. Fortunately, there was no fire. My nightstand had a granite surface. I got a refund from Amazon. As for the phone, I had Verizon device protection plan and I got a CLNR replacement. AFter that, I never bought another wireless charging pad, unless it was made by the phone manufacturer like Samsung or Apple.

I have had and used a “cheap” pad from Nanami for years now with 3 IPhones without any issues. But the 15 Pro was on there before the NFC chip passed away in the car. I am also now just charging with a cable, although I have not yet received my replacement phone from Apple. Been waiting over 3 weeks now. I wonder if they ever ship me a replacement.
