Okay, so this has been bugging me since I first got an iPhone. When you open up Safari to start a new browsing session, (with no pages currently open), your bookmarks always pops up. Safari is useless until this pops up, like you can't tap or something and it won't pop up. I can't think of a time I've ever used this "feature"-- I always just tap done and enter the address I'm going to.
I'm thinking I can remove this via SSH, but my question is, does anybody else feel the same way? I just find it plain annoying.

Haven't seen this problem. It may be necessary to do a restore and re-jailbreak. Obviously back up your blobs before restoring.

It's not a "problem", it's the design and a restore is not going to change that. Some people just don't like that bookmarks pops up when you open Safari without at least one website in the memory. It would be nice to just have the blank browser window come up.

Why not just leave google.com or gmail.com (or whatever mail yo use) open when you close Safari? Then bookmarks will never automatically popup on you.

And here I was thinking I was crazy for all these years!

This is so very annoying. No way I know of to fix it.

The only real work around for this is to go to the page you want to open, click the plus icon in safari, select "Add to Home Screen" and then use that instead of the actual safari app.

Whenever I am done browsing on Safari, I close all of the open tabs and hit the home button. Even with multitasking on iOS 4, the browsing history still appears when you re-open Safari. Why can't a blank, new webpage appear when you open Safari? Then from there you can open bookmarks, search, or the address bar. It would give the user more options if done that way.
I am still fairly confident I can figure out how to disable this.

FYI...

Submitted a new free tweak "No Boomarks" to Cydia (BigBoss repo). Stops Safari from showing bookmarks on launch. Will be released tomorrow.

good stuff!
