Boot camp sleep disorder

I installed 64-bit Windows 7 Pro on a new boot camp partition (version 3.0 under SL 10.6.1), and while it runs fine, it seems to have a sleep problem. When I invoke the sleep mode from the Start menu, Windows goes away, but I can still hear the fans and HDs and the light on the power button does not flash. Hitting keys on a keyboard or moving/clicking the mouse does not bring Windows back, and I have to do a hard shut down.

Any ideas?
