I have installed bootcamp, but when I am in Windows, I can't see the other partition, which contains OSX, yet I can see the Windows partition from OSX. Why is this, and can I change it? Is it because of a different file system or something?

That's correct. Windows can't read Macintosh HFS partitions. You need to buy MacDrive for your PC in order to use the Macintosh partition.
