can i install windows via boot camp with a XP update disk?

Are you talking about "Windows XP Upgrade", or "Windows Update for Windows XP"? XP Upgrade (which takes you from an older version up to XP) will not work, while Update (which gets installed after XP is already running and adds the latest patches) should.
