I have Windows 8 Boot Camp that will not boot as a physical machine, but loads and runs fine in VMWare Fusion. It has been a while since I attempted to boot it and have made a few changes that might have affected things.
  • I installed a SSD in the normal HD bay and moved the old disk to the DVD bay. That old drive has the Boot Camp partition.
  • I installed Yosemite on the SSD. Mavericks is still bootable on the old HD.
  • I have added an external USB 3.0 Mac formatted drive.
I have tried disconnecting all USB devices, and have booted both by choosing the Windows drive in Startup Disk and by holding the option key at start. I get the "no valid boot drive" DOS error. As a VM it can do a reboot. And I shutdown the VM before attempting a physical boot. Not sure what else to try, other than moving the drive back... not sure it's worth that. Any help appreciated.
