Boot drive not showing on desktop

Hi - my external drives all show up on the desktop, but not my boot drive (an owc mercury ssd).
How do I get it to show up? Obviously it's visible in the finder, but not in the 'devices' list, only in the 'Desktop, Applications' etc shortcuts under favorites.

Drag the Finder's desktop icon of your boot drive into the Devices list of an open window. It should then appear in your devices list.
