Boot from USB 3.0

Just got my MBA 11' 2012 model and installed 10.8 GM.

I created a boot drive (10.8 GM) on a new USB 3.0 stick but was unable to boot from it. Did the same thing on my iMac (10.7.4) and wife's MBP (10.7.4) and it worked.

Have anyone else been able to boot (10.8) from USB (3.0) on 2012 Mac's?
