My 2009 Mac mini has developed a boot issue whereby it'll often shut down a few seconds after the startup chime. All you can do is press the power button to try again, and eventually it will boot (if it gets as far as the Apple logo, it'll be fine) and once it's finished booting you can rely on it to run 24/7.

So why would it be shutting down at the same early point in the boot sequence? Could it be a faulty PSU?

I've reset the SMC and that hasn't helped.
