1. Mac started freezing about 2 months ago. At first I thought they were kernel panics, caused by TVU player (beta) or other software
2. on the monthly checks, DU reported issues with the HDD. File system issues , keys out of order. I thought that was the problem.
3. Kept freezing, today it froze like 5 times in 30 minutes, so I said enough is enough . Erase & Install
4. While booted from CD, while checking it for consistency, it froze.
5. So I thought it was a memory issue. Went to apple reseller , some tests and memory cards changed. It still froze.

So it is probably a motherboard issue or something really bad.

So I have backup up to this point on an external drive. Can I install leopard on it, and boot from it from a Windows laptop and use it from there while the MBP is in service?
