Boot Problems

I'm having a few problems booting up OSX on my SR MBP. The problem is that when I either start or restart the computer, I get nothing but a white screen and the fans spin up to full speed when I have my Belkin USB hub plugged in. I have an iPod and three MyBooks attached to it. It stalls the boot process. I can unplug the USB port and the Apple logo appears and it loads the OS. Is there a solution for this? I considered reformatting everything to HFS+? Would that help? Thanks!

Once running, does your machine handle the devices smoothly or does it crash/freeze?
