I use one of the Apple stock Dynamic desktop images, the one of the big rock in the ocean. Yet when my Mac boots it shows this hideous screen. I'd prefer the boot screen to be anything else, even just be black. Any way to change it?

Yes, they would need your username and password, or physical access to your drive. Encryption isn't going to prevent anyone from stealing your data, it prevents then from actually seeing what the data is (unless it's a government actor, you're likely completely protected with data encryption). So crazy question, if file encryption is off, my MacBook is still pw protected, correct? For someone to get data off of it they’d either need my pw or they’d have to remove the drive to get access to it?
What if you change it with Onyx, and then enable File Vault? If you have FileVault enabled you can not change it at all, not even with Onyx...
I don't think the image above changes the Boot screen. I think it changes the Login screen. That big orange blob screen still shows during boot. Or is there something else that needs to be changed as well. You can do it in the terminal, but it's easier to download Onyx (free) and change it in the settings.
