I have a 3G iphone running 4.0.1. It works fine while plugged in, but once I unplug it, it soon enters a reboot loop. It goes to the apple screen, goes dark, then repeats, over and over until the battery drains. I think what I need to do is to boot tether, but my power button is broken. :/

iPhone 3G's do not need to boot tethered. There's probably a error with the firmware that's causing that to happen. Try restoring it. If that doesn't fix it, then its probably an unfixible hardware error.
