I'd like to create a bootable firewire drive for my PowerBook. Instead of shelling out $20+ for a firewire drive I'd barely ever use, would connecting a spare SATA hard drive to a USB to FW adapter to my USB to SATA adapter work, instead?

I'm not aware of any FireWire-to-USB (or vice versa) adapters that work (for this purpose, at last). You can boot a PowerBook from USB though.

Do you know of any FireWire to SATA adapters that might work? Thank you for your input!

OWC Mercury On-The-Go Pro supports FireWire 800 and USB 3.0 to connect a 2.5" SATA drive.
OWC Mercury Elite Pro supports FireWire 800, USB 3.0, and eSATA to connect a 3.5" SATA drive.
