I have a Mac Pro with 10.7.5 (lion) and made a bootable usb in case of trouble. I have recently bought a MBP that 10.5 on it (bought it used) so I wonder if I can use that usb to install lion on MBP any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

The key here is: Did one computer come with Lion pre-installed, and the other with an earlier OS? If YES, then a USB key created on one computer will not work on the other one. This is true for Mountain Lion too.

The obvious question is:
If you put the USB flashdrive into the MacBook, can you do a "switch-boot" and boot the MBP from the flashdrive?

Try that, and you will have your answer.

As long as the MBP is capable of running Lion, yes... that will work.
