Ok, before I start getting flamed for not looking for posts on this, I have. I know there are several threads on whether or not the BUD used with Time Machine can be partitioned (yes it can), and how to use Boot Camp from a external partition, but I couldn't find anything on this specifically.
Ok, so I have a 500GB Iomega Minimax external (wanted the usb/FW hub, plus the mini form factor to place right on the foot of my iMac) that I am now using as my Time Machine BUD. I have a separate FW drive which I borrowed to back up a bootable copy of my Tiger install before I did an erase and install for Leopard. I want to keep a bootable copy of Tiger so I can use miscellaneous things such as Photoshop, so I made a 30GB partition on the BUD, Mac Extended journaled format, and used Carbon Copy Cloner to transfer the 21GB Tiger image from the other external to my BUD. That went fine, but when rebooting with the new Tiger partition as the start up drive, if shows the Apple logo start up screen, the little progress circle/tick mark thing, and it just hangs there, spinning and spinning.
I'm just curious if anyone else has run into a similar problem, or if someone might have a clue as to why it won't boot. I'm thinking of partitioning my internal HDD and cloning Tiger there to see if it will boot. If it doesn't then it's got to be a problem with the Tiger install, and I'll probably just use my iMac restore CD's to install Tiger on a fresh partition and reload the programs I want/need.
Also, would it be smarter to put the Tiger partition on the internal HDD, or the external?
