I downloaded the latest bootcamp drivers available under bootcamp assistant to a USB driver. When I boot back into windows and attempt to run the bootcamp drivers installer, and it just fails with this error. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Which machine do you have? If it is the late 2013 rMBP, then you need x5640, instead.

If x5621 is the right one, I would re-download it, restart your machine and try again.

I have the original 15" rMBP.

I think I might have to remove all traces of the old bootcamp and attempt to install. This is so frustrating.

I have the same machine and used the same version of support drivers.
Originally the Nvidia driver would not install but all the other drivers did. I updated the Nvidia driver through device manager and it installed.
No other problem though here.

Have you installed any drivers direct from the manufacturers of any devices at all?
