Hi

So I just purchased a new Macbook Pro 15 retina with a Geforce 750M.

I have just finished installing Windows 8.1 Pro x64 using Bootcamp.

Now, I have a few questions regarding antivirus software.

After a small research, I concluded I do NOT need an AV for OSX.

For Windows, there seems to be a small group of people who decide to install software like McAfee, Norton, ESET etc. The majority seems to stick to Microsoft Security Essentials.

I currently have NOD32 7.0 in my PC desktop and I have no complains. Been using ESET since version 2.0 and I never had any issue with their software. I also use Malwarebytes to add extra protection from malware. After many years of using this combo, I must say I feel really good about it, so thats where my question comes now...

Will I be fine using just Microsoft Security Essentials for my Windows 8.1 installation in Bootcamp?
Would you guys recommend something different (like ESETs solution)? Do you guys recommend I install Malwarebytes in it or not?

Thanks for the input

As long as you take some steps to protect yourself and don't visit suspicious sites, MSE should be fine.

I installed Norton 360 Premier on my Boot Camp partition just for the peace of mind.

Personally in Windows 8.1 I use the build in Windows Defender, which is basically Microsoft Security Essentials built into the system.

If I'd every go with an anti-virus it would be NOD32 they are definitely at the top of the antivirus software industry right now. McAfee and Synaptic are things to stay way from. We use McAfee on a corporate level and it's terrible at it's job. So I'd say you're doing fine as you're now.

No need to change anything.

You're right. I just read that MSE cannot be downloaded into Windows 8.1 because Windows Defender (pretty much MSE) comes built-in the system.

I will stick to Windows Defender for BOOTCAMP and leave my OSX the way it is (nothing installed in it). Let see how Windows goes...
