What's up..

I'm trying to reinstall Windows XP on an older mac (Macmini 1,1) with Leopard. I had it installed but it got screwed up when I tried to upgrade from SP2 to SP3. Big mistake: I didn't read online before that SP3 is full of problems and errors.

The first problem was that my Combo drive doesn't read most CDs/DVDs, it just spits them out. So, I had to buy an external drive.

Now after I created the Windows partition using Bootcamp and launched the Windows installation (Bootcamp now recognises the Windows CD), the computer reboots then it gets stuck in a light grey screen, doing nothing. The external CD/DVD drive keeps reading for a while, then it stops and gets idle.

I've tried many other things before using this method, but some things don't work on this machine: such as using virtual machines (not enough RAM).

I don't understand how this worked when this computer had Tiger installed without any problems. Now, some years later, after an EFI update and after Leopard got installed, the Superdrive fails to read disks, Bootcamp doesn't properly read the Windows XP Install disk after boot, and so on.
