bootcamp - halo ce issue

Hi

i have halo ce (custom edition) installed on my windows partition of my 2.4ghz 24' aluminum imac.

i have one issue that i cant seem to fix and neither can google
it is that the text does not show up on the screen (in-game text like chat and information about who died etc)

my friend also has this problem on his black macbook, we've both tryed different versions of the game but nothing.

also we both have windows xp installed.
