I need to reinstall Bootcamp/Windows on my mid-2012 MacBook Pro (with OSX 10.9.5 Mavericks) because of a hard drive change.
Last time I installed it (and got it working) I wrote a step-by-step guide here which I followed but somehow I'm not quite getting it right.
What's good is that Windows is actually installed on the computer and it's possible to boot into it, but:
1) The Bootcamp related stuff (for configuring my MBP trackpad etc.) isn't available anywhere in Windows (I thought I should find it within "All programs" or "Control panels"), so it's obviously not been installed along with Windows from the USB-stick installer.
I can't access the USB-stick either. It doesn't appear in Windows at all (just drive "C"), and I can't mount it (even physically removing it then re-inserting it doesn't make a difference)
2) The Bootcamp partition within the OSX Finder desktop is named "untitled" for some reason. Shouldn't it automatically be named to "BOOTCAMP"?
3) I have no Internet access in Windows. A red "x" is shown in the menu-tray at the bottom of the Windows desktop and I haven't been able to configure it to work.
Regarding the preparation of the USB-stick using Bootcamp Assistant, I first ran into a problem when it tried to download the Bootcamp support software, complaining about a network problem:
I suppose Apple have removed the file from their server). Luckily I've kept that ZIP file from before (BootCamp5.1.5640.zip), so I unzipped it and copied the two folders within (BootCamp and $WinPEDriver$) to the root of the USB-stick.
NOTE: The support software also contained a file named AutoUnattend.xml so I copied that over to the root of the USB-stick as well, but in hindsight I see that perhaps I should leave this file and NOT copy it over to the USB-stick!? I say that because the source of my information (about manually copying over the files) only mentioned those two folders.
Could this be the cause of my problems?
UPDATE: removing AutoUnattend.xml from the USB-drive's root didn't make any difference. Nor did placing the downloaded support software ZIP file (BootCamp5.1.5640.zip) in the USB-drive's root, so I must be missing something else.
