Quick question,

I will be ordering my iMac after the update. I have a copy of Windows 7 ultimate UPGRADE. Can I install a basic version of windows 7 or vista via Bootcamp on my iMac, and then upgrade the OS via my Ultimate upgrade DVD? I don't see why it wouldn't work, but I figure I'd ask the experts since i'm new to Mac.

If you really have a full version of Vista or Win7 Basic, then you can install the Win7 Upgrade w/o installing those other ones first. Just follow these instructions:

http://www.winsupersite.com/win7/clean_install_upgrade_media.asp

I usually have to do the registry hack to get it to work.

Note this is a perfectly fine and legal way to do this, assuming you actually have a physical copy of the full version media that allows the upgrade.

Now if you don't feel comfortable doing this, then I believe your inclination is right that you can upgrade in place within the BootCamp partition. You may have to do this first, I don't know though.

Thanks for the reply, very helpful links. I think I'll try the "double install" method that was outlined, another user on the Apple support forums recommended that as well.
