According to MacFixIt:
Apple has quietly released version 1.0.2 of its beta Boot Camp software for running Windows XP on Intel-based Macs.

Apple has provided no documentation regarding enhancements in this release. The disk image download itself has a modification date of July 10th (yesterday) at 9:17 AM, but the files therein -- including BootCampAssistant.pkg, the installer for the Boot Camp Assistant -- carries a modification date of June 19th.

The new release is available as a standalone download from Apple's Boot Camp page.

Has anyone downloaded the new package and burnt the Windows driver CD?

It'd be great to see if Apple have actually updated any of the device drivers, or if this is simply a tweak to the Assistant.

Tried It

Nothing has changed as far as i can tell. tried to install all the unknown hardware in the device manager and no luck. it had to have changed something but i cant figure out what.

Updated drivers for WiFi can be downloaded directly from the chipset manufacturer: http://tw2005.giga-byte.com/Communication/Support/Driver/Driver_Wireless_GN-WI01HT.htm

The updated drivers provide a much wider range of authentication protocols and a handly WiFi utility that gives you information on your WiFi signal, allows you to tweak options and setup auto-switching profiles for different networks.

Any idea if the speakers turn off if you plug-in headphones? My only peeve with Boot Camp at the moment is the audio drivers.

Would be nice if the backlit keyboard worked with the MacBook Pro.

Has anyone tried to install Vista with it? That would be a neat addition.

my guess is that that's pretty pointless until vista is actually released, given microsoft's fetish for changing things all the time.

Does anyone have the issue of the keyboard not working while in XP using bootcamp? I have to unplug and replug in the keyboard all the time. It's annoying. I wonder if this has been fixed with this update.

If it's been fixed, can I just install the new version or do I have to reload XP?

It might have something to do with the BootCamp issues related to the new $899 education iMac. I believe upon install using the original BootCamp version, Windows "saw" the iMac as a notebook, not desktop.

Could be.

It would be nice if it included a fix for the whole non-screensaver/sleep screen issues on the MBP.

Holy ****.. that install fixed the lack of screen saver support in Windows on my MBP! Why????

well aside from its hard drive, it almost is. ;) A mobile chip, notebook memory and I'm not sure but I think the graphics chip is the mobility variety as well. :D

Obviously they are preparing for the upcoming Mac Pro release. ;)

I agree completly. With Quad Core (Dual Woodcrest) MacPros comming out... and who knows what other good hardware. They needed to descretly update boot camp. <3

I Heart Apple... Now my 20 inch IntelliMac is going to be obsolete soon :( well not really, but I always need the latest and greatest hardware... sigh.

So, whats new???

Not a dang thing as far as I can tell. I downloaded and installed the new driver package. Didn't update a single driver. Video: nope, audio: nope, USB: nope, bluetooth: nope, iSight support...heck nope. The brightness stepping issue? Nope. WIFI? Nope. In short they haven't done jack with anything that is obvious. :( All the while suspend is flaky as **** on my MBP...but is like a rock on my ThinkPad. Apple needs to hire some people at Intel to do some driver development for them because so far I'm NOT impressed. even less so with power management under XP on my MBP.
My biggest fear is that Apple is going to intentionally neuter Windows on the Mac simply to make OS X look like the faster more stable OS. (Which IMHO both are on = footing.) I mean seriously I've never seen XP take so long to boot. On a relativity new Dell it takes less then 15 second from first seeing the Windows boot screen until you get the logon screen. On a MBP it takes....well I haven't timed it but its **** of a lot longer. Part of me thinks Apple did a crappy job with their CSM for EFI. Because other then that there really is no reason for it taking so bloody long to boot.
That being said I’m having my cake and eating it too. Windows runs. I can use streets and trips 2006 with GPS, and I can use all the in house Windows apps that I need to do my job. Its not a perfect world but it will do…which I think is what Apple is thinking as well. :(

There is no reason why Apple would need to update BootCamp for a new Mac. Boot Camp is nothing more then a boot manager/loader. Realistically this update was because of all the headaches that people were having when they first installed BC....correct me if I'm wrong but weren’t there a few people who had their install of OS X blown away and could only boot into XP?

I haven't timed my iMac, but it can't be much longer than 15 seconds.

Edit: OK, I had nothing better to do, so I timed it. 35 seconds. That's significantly faster than the 2.8 GHz XP boxes we have at work, which take a good 3-5 minutes. If I remember, I'll time mine tomorrow just to check.

Edit: Finally remembered, it took 3:15.

omg never thought it would be a general problem. Happens here too and it's quite annoying. It just happens for no reason! But after the plug thing when ou turn xp off or restart it pops a lovely blue screen that stays for... less than a second. I'll have my cell phone near for next time to read the screen.

In many (possibly all) of those cases the problem was user error in that the user instructed the Windows installer to either wipe the OS X partition or inadvertantly installed Windows over the top of the OS X partition.
