I was wanting to take an important online course for the next few months, however, they specifically stated I would need a windows machine, and NOT Mac.

Now, it's been a very long time since I used bootcamp, and from what I remember, I simply just needed the Windows CD to turn my computer into a windows box. However, my iMac is a:

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017)

Running macOS Monterey

There is no CD drive with this system, so it seems the only solution is to buy Win 11 that ships with a USB stick.

One problem, is I am not sure if bootcamp will let me install from an original USB install stick instead of the CD?

The other, which I just found out, is that since Macs have no TPM, I am out of luck anyway with Win 11.

Perhaps, I can find someone selling Win 10 which ships with an USB stick instead of CD and go that route? But I am not sure what other hidden problem I will run into here, assuming it even is possible.

Thanks in advance for any reply on this.

Windows 11 keys work for windows 10. So just install windows 10 using official boot camp tool which and download windows 10 from Microsoft (at least with the latest most up to date version of Mac OS). You won’t need the usb stick at all And no tpm needed for win 10.

Microsoft is very generous about letting anyone download win 10

Thanks guys. I downloaded the Win 10 iso, and will try to play with it this weekend. IIRC I can still install it without a key? At least this should let me know ahead of time before buying one if it will work/run on this iMac.

Exactly right

My internal drive has about 4TB of space which is far more than I may ever need. I am debating on partitioning it with BC, I just hope that this won't risk over-writing data already present for MacOS.
