Hi, I am trying to make a 100gb partition for bootcamp but it says "unable to partition"

I have a 750gb HD and there are 500gb free so I'm not sure why it won't let me partition the space. I've read that I need to defrag but before I spend money on a defrag program for a HD that is not even close to full (or has ever been close to full) I'd like to get your opinions. Any help would be appreciated.

OSX 10.8.3
Boot Camp Assistant: 5.0.2

Trying to install win7. Thanks guys/gals!

You need to find out why Boot Camp Assistant is having trouble with the partitioning portion of its work.

To do that, you should start by opening up the Console app and monitor it for messages the next time you try to use Boot Camp Assistant.

Finder -> Applications -> Utilities -> Console

Will do, thanks!

Run Disk Utility
Select the Macintosh HD
Then Verify Disk

If disk is OK run Repair Permissions

If Disk reports errors you'll have to restart in Recovery Mode and use Disk Utility.

Select and run Repair Disk this time
and then run Repair Permissions.

Reboot into OSX when finished and run Boot Camp.

This should get you your BootCamp Partitioning finished without resorting to a DeFrag.
