every time i start my iMac it makes a loud sound a pong! sound how do i disable that???

pst... can't change the title :( that is not what i wanted ...

You can disable it however it is not wise to. The startup tone is there to let you know the system is beginning to startup. If you ever need to reboot in SafeMode or from another volume then you need the tone to know when to press certain keyboard commands. In other words IMHO leave it alone.

He could lower the volume before shutting down and the tone would be less intense upon boot.
