I'm sure I've heard somewhere that it's possible to turn Macs on via ethernet, I've looked around on google and the forums here but haven't found a thing saying how to do it. Is it possible merely I imagined this?

I want to boot a G5 iMac, connected via ethernet through an AirPort Extreme, (802.11n 100Gb model).

Boot from cold, no. Wake from sleep yes if you have the 'Wake for Ethernet Administrator access' option turned on in Energy Saver and/or have a copy of ARD.

It is called netbooting, you hold down N during boot. You have to have a netboot server with an OS image of course. I don't believe it works over wireless (how would it know your ID, password, etc..).
