When I turned on my 13 inch Macbook this morning I got a black screen with the message "No bootable disk, insert startup disk and press any key".

This has never happened to me before and I am wondering what the cause is and how to avoid it in the future.

I got the system to start by pressing and holding down the option key.

Thanks in advance for your kind help.

Go to System Preferences -> Start up disk -> Select your hard drive

Run Disk Utility as well (repair permissions & fix)
