Hey guys,

My dad just got a new Macbook Pro and he wants to use something like iPhoto to organize all of his photos. He has a couple hundred gigs worth of photos on his external and would prefer to keep them there. How can he access those photos via iPhoto without ever actually uploading them to his internal hard drive? Thanks for any help.

Yes, but he won't be able to access the photos unless he's connected, and make sure Under Preferences, you uncheck "Copy photos to iPhoto Library".

Someone correct me if I'm wrong

OK, I see what you mean. We need to uncheck the box you indicated, but otherwise, it's business as usual when importing photos to iPhoto. And yeah, it's fine that he has to be connected to the external to access the photos, he just doesn't want to waste his hard drive space on the thousands of photos he's taken over the years. Thanks!
