Has anybody managed to get a MacPro1,1 or MacPro2,1 to boot from a PCIe SSD?

Yes, I know this is crazy/overkill/ridiculous, but I would still like it to work if possible.

I have a 2006 1,1 that has been firmware-upgraded to 2,1. It runs El Cap 10.11.6 using the PikerAlpha boot.efi. I installed a Lycom DT-120 board in slot 4 (x4 lane configuration) with a Kingston HyperX M.2 AHCI 960GB SSD in it. I cloned my boot drive onto the SSD with CCC. I used Blackmagic speed test to verify operation, and got around 600 MB/sec read and write. But I can't get the machine to boot off the PCIe SSD.

Other people have reported that during boot on a 1,1 or 2,1 when you hold the Option key down you will NOT see any PCIe drives on the MacPro1,1 or 2,1 -- and I can confirm. However, you can still use the Startup setting to pick a valid PCIe boot drive, which I did. Unfortunately what happens on restart is that the gray screen remains without the Apple logo until it times out after about 60 secs -- then the computer picks the next valid boot device (which is my CCC backup hard drive).

I found this post where somebody said they got it working with a Lycom DT-120 board and Samsung XP941, so maybe it just doesn't work with Kingston HyperX.
