Since i've cooked a USB bootable Windows 7 installer stick on an 8GB USB Kingston keycard I'm disappointed to be unable to boot from on my early 2011 MacBookPro Thunderbolt...
;-(
Yesterday i went in a local shop and tried to test my USB stick on mid 2012 Macbookpros:
one with an internal Optical drive and a Retina with no Superdrive.
I was happy to see my USB Stick able to boot in both MBPros mid 2012!
That the proof that my stick is OK and bootable!
I don't know why this doesn't work on my early 2011 model:
I also tried to replace the Superdrive inside removing the newmodeus bay containing the original 500 GB hard disk, since i put a Crucial m4 SSD 128 in the original HD bay.
I have a Boot camp partition on the original HD with Win 7 on it.
In case Windows may crash i discovered that the CD repair disk in an external USB bay is not blessed for booting! it only works when the Optical drive is inside at it's original place!
This is specific to this bloody "early 2011" MBPros, since what i discovered on the mid 2012 models is different because my USB stick was blessed for booting while pressing the alt key!
I was told to try to copy the USB stick content onto an SDXC card to check wether it may boot Windows from and be able to repair Windows or use a backup in case it's damaged...
I want to know what Apple has changed from the early 2011 to the mid 2012!
