Boots but only Black screen

I have a Macbook pro 2007, it boots, can hear startup sounds, but the screen stays black, the black does change a little from the powered off black, when I hook them up to my LCD tv it work perfectly.

When I shine a torch on the screen I can see the contents on it.

So boots fine, but has black screen and works ok on external

I have tried resetting the PRAM and SMC

Help would be appreciated.

Sounds like your backlight may have failed.

At the time I had another macbook pro handy, so I did take the screen off and try it on the other one and it worked fine, this kind of ruled out the screen for me
