Bootup problems

When I reset my mac, sometimes it doesn't reboot properly and just hangs on a blue screen

I need to disconnect the network cable and power it down with the power button then reboot, once rebooted i can connect the ethernet cable again


What causes this?? Is it trying to boot to the network or something?
