my desk has a speaker hold right on level with the top of the imac. when i tried the speakers in the store, they had a built in bass, since the 24 inch imac is RIGHT next to the speaker places, wouldnt the subwoofer damage the computer? is there anything sensitive to thumps on the top of the imac, or should i put the speakers on desk level next to it?

new question: are the magentic shields strong enough in the bose companion 2?

The lows in the Companion II's really aren't that amazing. They're great speakers, that's for sure, but I'd highly doubt that the "thump" would cause any damage to the computer.

With that said- get the Companion III's or V's. They're amazing, and the bass with the individual sub is much improved.

The Companions II are not that great. They actually don't sound as good as the original companions. I have the companion III's and they are awesome computer speakers. Take a look...

I have the Logitech Z-5500 system on my imac - had it since day one. This has a 10" sub that throws out a LOT of bass. I have yet to experience any ill effects from it. (it's about 2 feet directly below my imac, mounted to my desk)

My imac hard drive (and probably yours, too) is mounted on elastomer "shock absorbers" - which on a stationary unit, is likely for quieting down the hard drive. But it should also serve as decent isolation from any vibration.

The only thing I might concern myself with, would be any strong magnetic fields, if your speakers are unshielded. But I'd venture to guess, if they're 5" or smaller drivers, I couldn't imagine the magnets having a strong enough field to affect your HD if they're mounted to either side of your imac.

WHAT????????????????????????
YOU HAVE A ZUNE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How dare you! (well i guess you have an iPod too:D)

I won two of the Zunes. A white one and a black one. I like both my iPod and Zune a lot. I use them both to accommodate me in different ways. I just like the screen size of the Zune and the interface is nice. :p:apple:
