Bose...ipod dock...

Hi

I was gifted the bose -ipod dock speakers on my b;day//
I just wanted to know a general information...
Can i put any of the ipods available in the market today,,,
i n fiuture whenever i plan to buy my iphone ,,can it be docked...

Or whenever a new ipod comes along... will it also have the same pins beneath the ipod so it can be docked..
